WAIKIKI, OAHU, Hawaii – January 22, 2008 – For the second year in a row, an
employee from Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa has been honored as
Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year by the Hawaii Hotel & Lodging
Association (HHLA). The 2008 Na Poe Pa‘ahana award recipient is Banquet
Manager Nancy Pohina, who topped 18 other candidates vying for the
prestigious title and recognition. Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa associate
Jean Asato won the award in 2007.
“Nancy is very deserving of this award,” said Chris Tatum, general
manager of Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. “She embodies the aloha spirit
and goes to great lengths to provide guests with the very best experience. She is a
credit to Marriott and the hospitality industry and we’re proud to see her achieve
this recognition.”
A veteran of the hospitality industry with more than 25 years of
experience, Pohina is a driving force of Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa’s
banquet department. Known for her warm smile and energetic personality,
Pohina has been recognized by Marriott for her leadership and outstanding
customer service. Pohina joined the resort in 1981 as a banquet captain when it
was the Hawaiian Regent hotel and later became Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort
& Spa in 2000.
Two additional Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa employees also
received first place honors in their respective categories at the HHLA awards
ceremony: Bell Captain Isaac Pohina was honored as best Bell/Valet Person of
the Year, and Loss Prevention Supervisor Donna Sambueno received the award
for Security Officer of the Year. |
